Tanzania protest: Priscilla Ojo debunks claims that Juma’s $780m store was burnt

Priscilla Ojo-Mkambala, wife of Tanzanian singer and entrepreneur Juma Jux, has denied reports claiming that her husband’s multimillion-dollar store was burnt down during the ongoing protests in Tanzania.

Earlier reports had suggested that Juma Jux’s luxury fashion store, “African Boy Brand,” valued at over $780 million, was completely destroyed amid violent demonstrations following the country’s controversial presidential election.

However, taking to Snapchat, Priscilla clarified that while the store was indeed attacked, it was looted, not burnt.

Her statement came after several videos circulated online showing chaos in parts of Dar es Salaam and Arusha, where protesters clashed with security forces and vandalised properties.

The unrest reportedly broke out after opposition leaders accused the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party of manipulating the election results in favour of incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Priscilla, who is currently in Nigeria with her husband and their son, Rakeem, assured fans that no lives were lost and thanked supporters for their concern.

Meanwhile, Juma Jux and his management are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but local reports confirm that the damage to the store runs into millions of Tanzanian shillings.
