President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for their bronze medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the achievement as one that “feels like gold” to Nigerians.
The President praised the national team for bouncing back from the disappointment of their semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco, noting that their response reflected the resilience and fighting spirit of Nigeria.
According to him, the Super Eagles’ AFCON bronze is a testament to determination, persistence and belief in the face of adversity.
Nigeria secured third place after defeating seven-time champions Egypt in a penalty shootout, following a goalless regulation time in which the Super Eagles dominated proceedings. Tinubu said the victory showed the team’s mental strength and refusal to be weighed down by setbacks.

He added that Nigerians would take pride in watching the team receive their medals in Rabat, Morocco, stressing that the Super Eagles’ AFCON bronze symbolises courage and national pride.
“We will all be proud of them as they receive their hard-earned bronze medal. Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players,” Tinubu said. “This Super Eagles’ AFCON bronze surely feels good like gold.”
