Tragedy hit Soun High School last week as a teacher, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, was beaten by his own students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours.
Reports say Mr. Adegoke caught some students gambling in a classroom and tried to discipline them.
In response, the students allegedly turned on him, beating him badly and leaving him with serious injuries, including broken limbs. He was rushed to a hospital but later died from the attack.
A group of concerned educators condemned the incident, saying Mr. Adegoke’s death is an attack on the entire teaching profession.

They are demanding justice and protection for teachers, warning that the incident shows how much moral decay has crept into schools and homes.
“With deep pain and righteous indignation, we mourn the tragic and avoidable death of Mr. Fatai Adegoke, a dedicated teacher who was brutally attacked by his own students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours,” the statement read.
“This horrifying act is not just an assault on one man, it is an attack on the entire teaching profession.”
The group called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), TESCOM, and law enforcement agencies to act immediately against those responsible. They also said parents must be held accountable.
Attempts to reach Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for comment were unsuccessful.
Students involved are reportedly in hiding, causing outrage in the community. The tragic incident has renewed calls for urgent action to protect teachers and keep classrooms safe for learning.
