The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, marked the start of 2026 with a visit to new mothers at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, describing the year ahead as one of “peace in abundance” and “prosperity in abundance” for the nation.
Accompanied by Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, Minister of Women Affairs Hajia Imaan Sulieman-Ibrahim, and Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory Hajia Mariya Mahmoud, Tinubu welcomed the “First Baby of the Year,” a girl born at midnight to 26-year-old first-time mother, Adakole Patience.
She also visited Blessing Oragwu, who gave birth to triplets, two boys and a girl, on December 29, 2025, after 13 years of marriage, presenting the family with gifts.
“It is wonderful that she waited 13 years, and now there is another baby boy,” Tinubu said. Reflecting on the significance of the births, she expressed gratitude for Nigerians entering the New Year safely and optimistically.

“You know, in Yoruba land, they say girls come with ease. We believe 2026 will be a great year for our nation—peace in abundance, prosperity in abundance,” she added.
The First Lady encouraged Nigerian women to pursue opportunities with faith and generosity. “Nigerian women are hardworking and blessed. Whatever God places in your heart, go for it. Start small and you will be amazed,” she said.
She also emphasised the importance of giving, saying, “If you want financial blessings this year, sow into the lives of the less privileged. This is a year of generosity.”
Tinubu’s visit set a hopeful tone for 2026, combining the celebration of new life with messages of service, faith, and national optimism.
