The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect, identified as Daniel Ajibola, in Ibadan in connection with the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to tackle sexual offences, with Oyo police arrests 22-year-old reportedly involved in administering an intoxicating drink to the minor before the alleged assault.
The State Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, disclosed the development in a statement authorised by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, saying the arrest demonstrates the command’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring public safety.
“The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another operational success with the arrest of a suspect in connection with a reported case of rape involving a minor.
“On December 25, 2025, at about 1900 hours, the Alakia Adelubi Division received a report of sexual assault on a 17-year-old female.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the male suspect, Daniel Ajibola ‘M’, aged 22, allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor after administering an intoxicating drink to her. The suspect has confessed to the crime.
“The victim was promptly taken to a hospital for medical examination, while the scene of the incident was visited, and the suspect was arrested and taken into custody,” the statement read.
In line with the seriousness of the offence, the Commissioner of Police directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
Haruna warned that the command would not tolerate violent acts against women or offences targeted at members of the public.
He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations and reassured residents that the state command remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property.
He urged the public to continue providing credible information that will aid crime prevention and detection, as part of wider efforts in which Oyo police arrests 22-year-old offenders connected to sexual offences.
