Governor Ademola Adeleke has called in the management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over persistent power outages in Osogbo and other major towns across Osun State, describing the situation as “unbearable” for residents.
In a statement released on Thursday, Adeleke lamented the worsening electricity supply, noting its negative impact on both businesses and households.
He emphasised that IBEDC must explain the root causes of the outages and work toward a lasting solution.
Field reports, the governor said, confirm that frequent blackouts are crippling businesses and daily life. “We cannot continue like this,” he warned.

Adeleke has invited IBEDC management to a brainstorming session aimed at resolving the crisis.
While acknowledging that the power sector is capital-intensive and a nationwide challenge, he stressed that Osun State has suffered disproportionately.
The governor also announced plans to diversify energy sources, highlighting renewable energy as a sustainable alternative.
He referenced the upcoming Osun Electricity Law, which will establish the Osun Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The commission will license power-generating companies and regulate the state’s electricity market, ensuring consumer protection while opening opportunities in the energy sector.
Adeleke directed the Commissioner for Energy to organize consultations between IBEDC and consumer advocacy groups to find immediate remedies.
In addition to addressing the blackout, the governor touched on relief efforts for rainstorm victims, urging affected residents to submit their details to the state emergency agency.
He also commended Senator Lere Oyewumi for raising the issue in the Senate and noted ongoing coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Economic Council to provide additional support.
The governor’s actions reflect a dual focus on tackling the immediate power crisis while laying the groundwork for long-term energy reforms in Osun State.
