Victor Osimhen delivered a stellar performance on Tuesday night as Galatasaray defeated Ajax 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League. The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a header and then converted two penalties to complete his hat-trick.
With this feat, Osimhen moved his tally in European club competitions to 25 goals, overtaking Obafemi Martins (23) to become Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in Europe.
He also now leads the Champions League scoring chart for the league phase this season, ahead of top stars like Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé.
After the match, Osimhen praised his team’s preparation and collective effort:
“I generally think we deserve it… We knew what the opponent would do. We were well-prepared mentally and psychologically. I’m very happy with the goals, of course, but I want to thank all of my teammates once again.”

He added:
“Of course, I think I have the quality to do so (win the Golden Boot), but I do it with the support of my teammates… I will fight for it.”
The win lifts Galatasaray up to ninth in the group standings, while Ajax remain at the bottom after four straight defeats and a cumulative 14-1 goal deficit.
Osimhen’s achievement puts the spotlight firmly on his elite status and sets the tone for his team’s push through the group stage.
