Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Sean Dyche as their new head coach, marking the start of a new chapter for the club.
The announcement came on Tuesday, just days after the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked immediately following Forest’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea. Dyche, who once played for the club at youth level, will make his debut in the dugout when Forest face Porto in the Europa League on Thursday.
In a statement, the club said: “Dyche brings the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement to guide the club through its next chapter. Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches in his career to date, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organisation, resilience, and strength from set pieces, qualities that align closely with the current squad’s attributes and the club’s footballing identity.”
Forest highlighted Dyche’s local roots and his understanding of the club’s culture, describing him as someone who “embodies the values and pride of Nottingham Forest and its supporters.” The 53-year-old has signed a contract running until the summer of 2027, becoming Forest’s third head coach this season after Postecoglou and Nuno Espirito Santo.

Postecoglou’s brief 39-day spell produced no victories in eight matches, the shortest permanent managerial reign in Premier League history.
Club owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly considered several candidates, including Roberto Mancini and Marco Silva, before settling on Dyche as the leading choice.
The new Nottingham Forest head coach has been out of management since leaving Everton in January, where he successfully guided the Toffees to Premier League survival despite points deductions. His previous nine-and-a-half-year stint at Burnley earned him widespread respect for delivering promotion and maintaining top-flight stability on limited resources.
With his deep ties to the club and reputation for discipline and resilience, Dyche’s appointment signals a renewed sense of direction at the City Ground.
