Mechanic stamping airbag logo on car dashboard causes stir online

A mechanic seen stamping an “SRS Airbag” logo on a car dashboard has caused a stir online, with many Nigerians questioning if tokunbo car buyers are being deceived.

The viral video shows the mechanic heating a brass stamp and pressing it onto a newly wrapped dashboard. A text overlay on the clip reads, “Your life is safe again,” which many viewers interpreted as a sign of possible fraud.

The clip was shared on X by @General_Somto, who warned that the act could be dangerous.

“This Is a Direct Belgium Car, a Dealer Is Selling In Nigeria. Imagine a Mechanic Stamping An Airbag Logo On a Car When There’s No Airbag In It. This Is Risky To The Buyer”.

The post sparked arguments online, with some users accusing dealers of faking safety features.

However, others insisted the stamp does not mean the airbag is missing. They said the dashboard was likely re-wrapped due to cracks or wear.

Reacting, @xaviercoded wrote:

“Una funny o! obviously you’re not aware dashboard covers warn out..

That’s the work of upholster, he replaces the warn out leather then stamp on it whatever that’s written on the old one.”

Another user, @ajao_babatunde8, also backed this view, saying:

“With what I am looking at the Dashboard was re- rapped due to dashboard crack”

Still, some users urged caution. @MindOfNaijaLife advised buyers to inspect cars properly before payment.

“The ‘Direct Belgium’ tag doesn’t mean what it used to. This is why you must bring a trusted technician with a scanner before you pay a dime. This level of deceit is scary.”

The debate has once again highlighted the need for proper vehicle checks, especially when buying foreign-used cars in Nigeria.
