Manchester United held to draw by Burnley at Turf Moor

Manchester United were held to a 2-2 Premier League draw by Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday, giving up a second-half lead to drop points once again.

United appeared on course for victory after Benjamin Sesko scored twice after the break, but Burnley responded to claim a share of the points.

The home side took an early lead in the 13th minute when Bashir Humphreys’ cross deflected off United defender Ayden Heaven and looped past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

United controlled much of the game and equalised five minutes into the second half. Sesko met a well-timed pass from Bruno Fernandes and fired a low shot into the net.

The Slovenian striker struck again in the 60th minute, volleying home Patrick Dorgu’s cross to put United ahead.

“It helps me for my confidence, but the most important thing is helping the team,” Sesko told the BBC.

“It’s been tough, but I’m happy I could help.”

Burnley drew level in the 66th minute when substitute Jaidon Anthony punished poor defending, blasting a shot from outside the penalty area.

United pushed for a winner late on, with teenager Shea Lacey hitting the crossbar, while a goal by Lisandro Martinez was ruled out after a VAR check.

Interim manager Darren Fletcher admitted his side were disappointed.

“Bit disappointed that we didn’t win the game,” Fletcher said. “When you go 2-1 up, you want to see it out.”

The draw leaves United seventh in the Premier League on 32 points. Burnley remain 19th, eight points from safety.
