The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has directed a nationwide stop to the collection of road stickers and levies at checkpoints across Nigeria.
The move is aimed at curbing illegal taxation and improving transparency in the country’s tax administration.
In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of its 158th meeting in Abuja on December 9–10, the Board called on security agencies, including the police and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), to take swift action to prevent unauthorized collection of fees along the nation’s transport corridors.
The JRB explained that the directive is part of ongoing efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s tax administration and ensure that motorists are not subjected to illegal charges.
The end to road sticker collection, according to the Board, will eliminate opportunities for exploitation by state and non-state actors.
Chairman Zacch Adedeji and Executive Secretary Olusegun Adesokan emphasised that the new directive should be enforced immediately.
Motorists are encouraged to comply with approved tax procedures and report any violations, as authorities will strictly monitor the end to road sticker and levy collection nationwide.
The Board further reiterated its commitment to modernising tax administration and promoting fairness, noting that the end to road sticker and levy collection is crucial for restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s transport taxation system.
