Borno State governor Babagana Zulum

Insecurity: Zulum declares Monday as day of fasting, prayer for Borno, Nigeria

Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, has declared Monday, November 24, 2025, as a statewide day of fasting and prayer for peace in Borno and Nigeria, following renewed security concerns across the country.

Zulum announced the decision in a statewide broadcast on Saturday, urging residents to embrace unity, vigilance, and spiritual intervention amid recent attacks.

He recalled that the state had endured 15 years of Boko Haram insurgency, during which millions were displaced and livelihoods were disrupted across all 27 local government areas. He said unity and support for security forces helped the state navigate its toughest years.

Zulum said, “The relative peace attained in the state has contributed to a promising harvest for this year’s farming season. Farmers have been able to cultivate their crops that is expected to sustain them for the next one to two years.”

He restated the government’s commitment to providing farming inputs and agro-chemicals to support year-round food production.

Although he acknowledged “recent sporadic attacks,” he noted that the state had recorded a reasonable level of stability but added that the national and global security situation remained troubling.

The governor commended residents for their resilience, saying, “Let me commend the people of Borno State for their steadfastness and commitment to the cause of peace. This has been demonstrated through relentless prayers, fasting, and continued support for our gallant troops in the frontline, the Civilian JTF, hunters, and vigilantes. Indeed, your resilience has been a source of inspiration and strength to me and to the entire administration.”

Declaring the statewide fasting and prayer, he said, “As a people of faith, we believe our security strategies must be underpinned by prayer. I, hereby declare Monday, 24th November, 2025, as a Statewide Day of Fasting and Prayer for the restoration of peace in Borno State and the country.”

He called on all residents, regardless of faith, to participate, saying, “On this day, I call upon every resident of Borno, regardless of faith, to join in prayer for the lasting peace and prosperity of our beloved state and Nigeria.

“Consequently, let us therefore devote ourselves to constant prayers, seeking Almighty God’s mercy.

“I also urge the people to use this period to pray for divine protection against evildoers, saboteurs, and all enemies of peace.”

The declaration comes amid a surge in abductions across the northern region.
