It was a throwaway comment, one which Jurgen Klopp likes to toss into the mix during his press conferences.
Asked about the buzz around the city as the Champions League final approaches, the German boss focused on the Anfield atmosphere; it has been back to its best for the wins over Manchester City and Roma.
“The crowd was really good. European nights, especially. If you have Wikipedia or Google, the answer to ‘European nights’ must be Liverpool.”
His point was clear. Liverpool have become synonymous with good atmospheres on European evenings. In the Champions League and Europa League, The Kop brings its A-game. That has been proven once more on the road to Kiev.
But there was much amusement on social media when it emerged that Klopp’s statement was actually correct.
If you Google the term ‘European nights’, it turns out Liverpool is the answer.
