Forget Biafra agitation, Umahi tells Igbo

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has stated that the agitation for a separate Biafran state is no longer necessary.

The minister insisted that the South-East has been fully integrated into Nigeria’s political and economic mainstream under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Umahi made this known during an inspection tour of ongoing federal infrastructure projects across the South-East region.

He noted that the feelings of marginalisation that previously fuelled separatist sentiments in the zone have significantly reduced due to increased federal presence, particularly in road construction and other critical infrastructure projects.

“There will be no need for Biafra again. In past administrations, our people felt very much marginalised, and that was why some people were agitating for Biafra.

“But I can say today that we are well integrated into the mainstream of the nation, Nigeria,” Umahi opined.

He praised the Tinubu administration for what he described as improved inclusion and engagement of the South-East in national affairs.

“We are comfortable with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We are very happy with the integration,” he added.

He also some ongoing and completed federal projects in the region, saying that many had been abandoned for over a decade before being revived by the current government.

“For more than 15 years, it has been one government coming to do something and then leaving,” he said.
