Manchester United produced an outstanding display as they defeated Liverpool and gave manager Erik ten Hag his first Premier League victory at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag took the bold decision to drop captain Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo and was rewarded with a performance that lifted the mood of crisis around Manchester United.
Jason Sancho put Red Devils in front after scoring within thr first 16 minutes before Marcus Rashford doubled the goal. Mo Salah set up a tense finish when he scrambled in a header with nine minutes left but it was too late for the Reds.
This is the first league defeat for Liverpool this season, they have only two points from their first three matches, and in terms of the title race, they are seven points off the pace, though, only just the five behind Man City.
Speaking on the result and how United won, the manager Erik ten Hag said, “It’s all about attitude. They had a fighting spirit, it was f—ing good”
On tonight’s performance he said, “I was happy with it but they have to bring it every game. I know the rivalry against Liverpool, but don’t just bring it against Liverpool. It starts with the spirit.”
