Dangote refinery to begin free fuel distribution, cuts price to N841 per litre

The Dangote Refinery will officially commence its free fuel distribution scheme on Monday, marking a major relief effort for Nigerians grappling with high fuel costs.

According to a statement by the Dangote Group spokesman, Anthony Chiejina, the initiative will begin in Lagos, the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States. Alongside the free supply, petrol prices have been reduced to ₦841 per litre in Lagos and the South West, while Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Delta residents will purchase at ₦851 per litre.

Chiejina explained that the Dangote free fuel distribution had been scheduled for August but was delayed due to logistics challenges in China. With the arrival of over 1,000 trucks, the refinery is now fully set to roll out the programme. More states are expected to join as additional trucks arrive in the country.

In a related development, Dangote announced the rollout of 10,000 CNG-powered trucks to strengthen logistics and reduce costs in Nigeria’s energy sector. Despite a recent spike in CNG prices, the company said it remains committed to this large-scale investment.

The Dangote free fuel distribution is expected to ease the financial burden on millions of Nigerians, while also stabilising fuel prices across key regions of the country.
