The Cross River State Government has announced a 20-day work-free period for all civil and public servants to enable full participation in Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The directive, contained in circular GO/HOS/4/Vol.III/277 and issued by the Head of Service, Mr Orok Okon, is effective from December 15, 2025, to January 5, 2026.
Under the circular, workers handling essential duties are exempted and expected to remain at their posts to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of critical services.
Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments have been instructed to communicate the circular to all staff and ensure strict compliance.

Officials noted that the break coincides with the preparations for Carnival Calabar, Africa’s biggest street party, which is set to mark its 20th edition this year.
Several states, including Akwa Ibom and Oyo, have also directed the payment of 13-month salaries to enable public servants enjoy the yuletide season.
