Arsenal, United and Chelsea had a miserable midweek, thanks to murky defeats to Swansea, Spurs and Bournemouth respectively. But, MD 26 present this clubs an opportunity to bury their dingy predicaments – with a win against their respective opponents. So, who is coming out on top this weekend in the Premier League? Read on to find out…
BURNLEY V MAN CITY
Burnley were second best against Newcastle on Wednesday, and were lucky to escape defeat. They have been woeful (recently), and I think City will win here.
Burnley are seventh on the log, with only five points away from securing safety.
I think they are beginning to get complacent, given they have already surpassed their target for the season at this stage.
A mid-table finish will be very much acceptable for a club of their status.
MY PREDICTION: Burnley 0-2 Man City
BOURNEMOUTH V STOKE CITY
Bournemouth have been impressive in the league – recently, thumping Chelsea 3-0 at the Bridge on Wednesday.
I think they would be highly motivated coming into this clash on Saturday.
Though, Stoke are capable of upsetting Eddie Howe’s men, I am backing The Cherries – who won the reverse fixture 2-1 to come out on top here.
MY PREDICTION: Bournemouth 1-0 Stoke City
BRIGHTON V WEST HAM
David Moyes has done well with West Ham so far, and I’m optimistic – they will play top-flight football next season.
Brighton should stay up at the end of the season also, given their display so far in the season.
Meanwhile, this game will prove difficult for both sides, and am expecting it to end in stalemate. Though, I think West Ham are likelier to win here.
MY PREDICTION: Brighton 1-1 West Ham
LEICESTER V SWANSEA
Leicester literarily molested Peterborough United the other day in the FA Cup, but couldn’t resist a Theo Walcott inspired Everton side on Wednesday – losing that one 2-1.
They will be looking to bounce back from that defeat – when Swansea visit on Saturday. But, this Swansea side have back-to-back Premier League wins against Liverpool and Arsenal, and they will be glowing in confidence heading into this clash.
Leicester badly missed the pace and invention of Riyad Mahrez against the Toffees on Wednesday, and manager Claude Puel would now be bothered with the challenge of integrating him back into the squad for this game and for the rest of the seaaon, after the Algerian’s move to league leaders Man City fell through on Wednesday.
MY PREDICTION: Leicester 1-1 Swansea
MANUTD V HUDDERSFIELD
That defeat to Spurs in midweek means; United are now 15 points adrift table-toppers Man City, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways against Huddersfield on Saturday.
This game at Old Trafford will present the likes of Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku the opportunity to impress, after their average display against Spurs on Wednesday.
The Red Devils will do well not to underestimate a side that handed them their first defeat of the season.
MY PREDICTION: Manutd 3-0 Huddersfield
WEST BROM V SOUTHAMPTON
Alan Pardew and his wards have won three in their last five matches (in all competitions).
But, they still find themselves at the bottom of the log. This should be a cracking game, as both sides are stuck in the relegation zone. Southampton have been disappointing this season, having finished eighth on the log last season and played in the final of the EFL Cup.
West Brom and Alan Pardew are not comfortable with their position on the table, I think they will fight hard to get a win here – to improve their win ratio in the league.
MY PREDICTION: West Brom 1-0 Southampton
ARSENAL V EVERTON
The North Londoners sold Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott to Chelsea and Everton respectively, and brought in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang to bolster their attack.
It remains to be seen if this duo signed by the Gunners; will replicate their blistering form together at Dortmund with Arsene Wenger’s side. The French football manager will now be faced with the task of harmonizing Aubameyang, Lacazette, Mkhitaryan, Ozil and Ramsey together in his starting lineup.
I think it would be exciting to see Aubameyang and Lacazette starting together in a 4-2-2-2 formation; with Mkhitaryan and Ozil supporting the pair in the attacking third. Having said that, I think Theo Walcott with a brace from his debut match with Everton will come back to the Emirates – hoping to prove his doubters wrong. This is going to be a thriller!
Sam Allardyce’s record against Arsene Wenger is poor, and I think he would find this game difficult (again).
MY PREDICTION: Arsenal 2-1 Everton
CRYSTAL PALACE V NEWCASTLE
Palace have looked dangerous at home under Roy Hodgson, and Newcastle will have to be on top of their game – if they desire anything from this encounter.
Only two points separates both sides on the log – with Palace enjoying the superiority.
It’s going to be a tough game for both clubs, as I back Palace to win this one narrowly.
MY PREDICTION: Palace 1-0 Newcastle
LIVERPOOL V SPURS
The Reds overcame what has been a miserable end to the month of January – as they defeated Huddersfield 3-0 at The John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday. But Jurgen Klopp and his men now face an uphill task; tackling a side that battered them 4-1 at Wembley in the reverse fixture.
Spurs were completely dominant against Manutd on Wednesday night, and should have scored more than two. The Lilywhites will fancy their chances here.
This would be overly entertaining, because of the way these two sides are designed to attack.
I am finding it hard to pick a winner in this one. This is a game that could go unduly wrong for any of this two – with only an error. But I think there would be lots of goals here.
MY PREDICTION: Liverpool 2-2 Spurs
WATFORD V CHELSEA
Chelsea were humiliated at home on Wednesday night to Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth, and Antonio Conte would be demanding a response from his players in this game.
Meanwhile, Watford have been pathetically awful at home in this campaign, and I expect Chelsea to win this emphatically.
Those Chelsea players will be eager to correct their wrongs from that Bournemouth defeat, when they take on Javi Gracia’s Watford on Monday.
MY PREDICTION: Watford 0-3 Chelsea
