Buhari’s son, Yusuf, declares interest in House of Reps seat

Yusuf Buhari, the only son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.

The development follows earlier reports that some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsed him for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.

However, the move has generated internal disagreement within the party. At a separate meeting held over the weekend, APC stakeholders from five local government areas in the Daura Emirate rejected what they described as attempts to impose candidates on the constituency.

The stakeholders alleged that certain individuals holding government positions were acting independently and falsely linking their actions to Governor Dikko Radda. They maintained that they would continue to defend the party’s established democratic process.

In a letter dated April 3, Yusuf formally informed stakeholders of his decision to join the race.

“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter read.

Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, in a post on his X page, confirmed the development, stating that the decision came after consultations with party stakeholders.

“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.
