Bayern Munich beat Atalanta 10-2 on aggregate to reach Champions League quarter-finals

Bayern Munich reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after beating Atalanta 4-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, completing a 10-2 aggregate victory. They will face Real Madrid next.

The Bundesliga side carried a 6-1 advantage from the first leg in Italy. Despite this, coach Vincent Kompany fielded a strong team, with Harry Kane back as captain. Bayern were without Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise, but goalkeeper Jonas Urbig was fit to start, avoiding a debut for 16-year-old Leonard Prescott.

Bayern opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Kane’s shot hit Giorgio Scalvini’s hand, and VAR awarded a penalty. Kane’s first attempt was saved, but he scored on the retake.

Kane added a second goal in the 54th minute, spinning past three defenders before striking into the top corner. Two minutes later, 18-year-old Lennart Karl made it 3-0, assisted by debutant Deniz Ofli. Luis Díaz completed the scoring with a delicate chip over the goalkeeper. Karl became the youngest German to score and assist in a Champions League match, according to Stuart Franklin.

Atalanta pulled a late goal back through Lazar Samardžić, but it did little to stop Bayern’s dominance.

The night also marked a milestone for Kane, who reached 50 Champions League goals in 66 games, equalling Lionel Messi’s pace. “This feels incredible,” Kane said. “The team played fantastically, and it’s always special to reach milestones like this in such an important competition.”

Bayern now move on to face Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
