Hollywood actor Jason Momoa and his family evacuated from Oahu’s North Shore as Hawaii faced its worst flooding in 20 years. Back-to-back storms battered the islands, damaging roads, homes, and causing widespread power outages.
Momoa, a Honolulu native, confirmed their safety in an Instagram video. “I got my family with me. We got out of the North Shore; a lot of people have been asking,” he said, according to TMZ. “Our power went off, [and] we’re safe for now, but there’s a lot of people who weren’t, so we’re sending all our love.”
He added, “North Shore is pretty gnarly right now. So just love and hopefully everyone’s safe and getting out, and we’ll get together and figure out how we help everyone.”
Authorities had ordered about 4,000 residents near the century-old Wahiawa Dam to evacuate after the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency warned it “is at imminent risk of failure.” Evacuation notices have since been lifted, though flood watches remain in effect across the islands. Hawaii Governor Josh Green reported no deaths or missing persons.

Momoa and his partner, actor Adria Arjona, also helped support the community by distributing free meals in collaboration with local restaurant Zippy’s. Momoa wrote on Instagram: “These past weeks have been heavy. The storms, the flooding, the constant rain across Oʻahu have affected so many of our people… Seeing families displaced, communities struggling, and our unhoused neighbors hit the hardest… What may feel like a small gesture can mean everything to someone in need.”
He added: “We spent time on the west side, just trying to show love, bring some food, and remind our community that we see you, we stand with you, and you’re not alone. That’s what aloha is.”
Meteorologists noted that two Kona storms in a single month are extremely rare, contributing to the unusually severe flooding.
