Driver in Anthony Joshua crash arraigned in Ogun State court, charged on four counts including dangerous and reckless driving. Two passengers died; Joshua sustained minor injuries.

Anthony Joshua crash: Driver arraigned, charged on four counts

The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the road accident that injured heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and killed two of his companions.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, appeared before a Sagamu Magistrate Court on Friday, January 2, 2026. The police confirmed that he had been formally charged in connection with the crash.

“I wish to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court today,” a police statement said.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, Kayode faces four counts: dangerous driving causing death; reckless and negligent driving; driving without due care causing bodily harm and property damage; and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence.

The court granted Kayode bail of ₦5 million with two sureties, though he remains in custody until the bail conditions are met.

The crash occurred on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the SUV reportedly collided with a stationary truck. Two passengers, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, died at the scene, while Joshua and the driver suffered minor injuries.

Joshua was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and reportedly visited a Lagos funeral home with his mother to pay respects to the deceased before their bodies were repatriated.
