The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, will on Saturday install Seyi, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as the “Okanlomo of Yorubaland.”
On the same day, the monarch will also confer the title of “Obaloyin of Yorubaland” on Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, who represents Zamfara West.
Details of the chieftaincy installation were contained in a flier on Wednesday via social media.
The flier, signed by the Alaafin and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, invited members of the public to attend the event scheduled for Saturday, December 21, 2025.
The title “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” refers to a person regarded as dear to the Yoruba people and reflects affection and importance within the race.
Confirming the development in a telephone conversation with the Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, said the installation would go ahead as planned.
“Yes, it is true. The Alaafin of Oyo wants to install Seyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland.

“The press statement on the said event would be made available today or anytime soon,” he said.
The announcement comes months after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, conferred the title of “Okanlomo of Oodua” on Ibadan-born philanthropist and Bada Olubadan designate, Dotun Sanusi.
That title later generated a supremacy debate between the two monarchs, which was resolved by stakeholders across the region.
More recently, the Ooni also conferred the chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua on the First Lady, Remi Tinubu.
Mrs Tinubu arrived at the Ooni’s palace around 1 pm and was received by the monarch and his chiefs. The ceremony took place at the Palace Square during events marking Oba Ogunwusi’s 10th coronation anniversary.
