Cameroon football suspends Samuel Eto’o after CAF handed the FECAFOOT president a four-match ban and $20,000 fine over alleged misconduct during Cameroon’s AFCON 2025 quarterfinal loss to Morocco.

AFCON 2025: Cameroon football suspends president, Samuel Eto’o, for alleged misconduct

Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o has been suspended for four matches and fined $20,000 following allegations of misconduct during Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal loss to Morocco.

The sanction was imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) disciplinary committee. In reaction, FECAFOOT said on Wednesday that it had taken note of the ruling but questioned both its basis and the process that led to it.

According to the federation, the decision “lacks any explicit justification,” adding that the manner in which it was reached raised concerns. “FECAFOOT further notes that the expedited procedure leading to this decision raises serious concerns regarding the fundamental requirements of a fair trial,” the statement said.

CAF had earlier confirmed it was probing incidents from the AFCON quarterfinal matches between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria. Although no specific incident was officially cited in the Cameroon-Morocco game, Eto’o’s conduct drew attention after he was seen gesturing angrily toward Moroccan football chief Fouzi Lekjaa during the match, with CAF president Patrice Motsepe nearby.

Despite the suspension, FECAFOOT reiterated its backing for its president. “FECAFOOT reaffirms its unwavering support for its president and its commitment to upholding the principles governing credible disciplinary justice,” the federation said.
