The Ogun State Government has appointed 1,200 political assistants in what it described as a major step to deepen democratic participation and strengthen governance at the grassroots.
According to a statement by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the aides — drawn from all 236 wards in the state, with five representatives each — are expected to bridge the gap between local communities and the state government.
Akinmade explained that the new appointees will articulate the needs of their wards, deliver accurate feedback to the government, and support the implementation of democratic dividends across the state.

He added that the initiative aligns with the governor’s campaign promise to run an inclusive government, ensuring that development programmes reflect the voices and priorities of citizens at the ward level.
The government urged the appointees to live up to expectations by driving growth and development in their respective wards, local governments, and the state as a whole.
