YOUR KITCHEN: Things you should never do while cooking

The kitchen, a wondrous place full of delicious possibilities, can also be a dangerous one. Apparently, kitchens are full of hazards, visible and invisible, so it’s important to be conversant with the do’s and don’ts when it comes to proper kitchen etiquette.

Without much ado, here are the simple things you should never do while cooking:

  1. Never catch a falling knife

Just take a step back, let it fall, instead of letting it slice your flesh.

  1. Don’t serve anything before you taste it

It most likely needs more seasoning.

  1. Never forget to wash your hands after chopping pepper

If not, your eyes will tell the story better

  1. Don’t crowd the pan.

There’s  no need to squeeze as much food into your pot or pan. In fact, it’ll take longer to cook that way, and your food won’t heat evenly.

  1. Licking

On no account should you lick any spoon or any other utensil you might be stirring with. It’s ok to lick the utensil and the bowl once you’ve finished, but if you lick the stirring implement and put it to one side, you might pick it up again and use it, forgetting you’d had your grubby, germ- and saliva-laden tongue wrapped around it.
