Finally getting to the business end of the season, the defining moment; when clubs begin to fight hard to achieve a decent finish on the log.
Meanwhile, none of the top six clubs in the EPL would be coming up against each other this weekend, but there are plenty of games this weekend you might be interested in.
So who is coming out on top in match day 24? Read on to find out…
BRIGHTON V CHELSEA
Brighton have only lost twice at home this season, and those defeats came against Man City and Liverpool. So, it tells you how organised this Brighton side are at home.
Chelsea are yet to win a single match in the EPL in 2018, and would have to up their game if they want to get something reasonable from this fixture.
Antonio Conte has never lost a Premier League match against promoted sides, winning eight and only one draw of his nine matches against them.
But I wasn’t impressed with Chelsea’s display against Norwich City in the FA Cup on Wednesday, and I think they will draw again here.
MY PREDICTION: Brighton 1-1 Chelsea
ARSENAL V CRYSTAL PALACE
Arsenal also haven’t won a game in 2018, but their last victory in the league came against this same opposition – and I think they would want to build on that to try get all three points on Saturday.
But Palace have won all their league games so far in 2018, and would also want to build on that against Arsenal.
All that said, I think Arsenal would have too much for Roy Hodgson and his men in this one(even without Manchester bound Alexis Sanchez).
MY PREDICTION: Arsenal 2-1 Crystal Palace
BURNLEY V MANUTD
The year 2018 has been a catastrophic one for Burnley so far – losing every game they have played since the turn of the year.
Meanwhile, United have won every game so far in the year; without conceding. In fact, Burnley were the last club to score against United on Boxing Day last year.
Everything seems to be clicking for Jose Mourinho and his wards this year, and that explains why Alexis Sanchez now wants United over City.
MY PREDICTION: Burnley 1-3 Man Utd
EVERTON V WEST BROM
Things have now gone from good to bad for Sam Allardyce – who enjoyed a sumptuous start to his Everton campaign.
The Toffees have now failed to win in their last five Premier League games. They just got Theo Walcott from Arsenal, and I think that should brighten up the mood in their dressing room and in the training ground, and should have a positive effect on their game on Saturday.
All that said, West Brom won’t be pushovers on the day, so Everton would have to be at their very best if they want to win this one.
MY PREDICTION: Everton 2-0 West Brom
LEICESTER V WATFORD
I thought Leicester City were really impressive against Chelsea at the Bridge last weekend, and were just unfortunate not to have won that game.
They look an in-form team at the moment, and I think they would win again in this one.
Watford won the reverse game 2-1, so Leicester would be underestimating the Hornets on Saturday at their own peril.
MY PREDICTION: Leicester 2-1 Watford
STOKE V HUDDERSFIELD
Stoke are in shambles at the moment, but I still think they will beat Huddersfield on Saturday.
Mark Hughes got the axe due to Stoke City’s poor run of form, and Paul Lambert was appointed to help remedy the situation.
A new manager is in place, and the players would all want to impress their new boss. Struggling Huddersfield will find this Stoke difficult to combat on the day.
MY PREDICTION: Stoke 2-0 Huddersfield
WEST HAM V BOURNEMOUTH
West Ham are on fire at the moment, but will still need to be on top of their game against a very tricky Bournemouth side – if they want to win.
The reverse fixture on boxing day was really thrilling – as it produced six goals, with the two clubs settling for a draw. Difficult to call, but I think West Ham should win by a whisker.
MY PREDICTION: West Ham 2-1 Bournemouth
MAN CITY V NEWCASTLE
City were blowing teams away until they met high pressing Liverpool last Sunday, with the Cityzens losing their unbeaten run in the process.
Teams would now be looking at Liverpool’s high pressing system as the panacea for City’s dominance and superiority in games.
Liverpool were also ruthless in front of goal, and I think that was the major key to their victory last weekend. It’s always going to be difficult stopping City just being aggressive in approach, and lacking that cutting edge in front of goal. And Newcastle are not a team that score lots of goals. So, it’s really going to be difficult for them here.
A Raheem Sterling strike was the only difference between this two in the reverse fixture, given how unfortunate City were on the day not to have scored more, I think they will blow Newcastle away this time around.
MY PREDICTION: Man City 3-0 Newcastle
SOUTHAMPTON V SPURS
Southampton have been poor recently, and conceded five in the reverse fixture. Harry Kane has scored five goals in his last four PL appearances against Southampton, including a hat-trick when this two met on Boxing Day last year. He would be licking his lips ahead of this clash on Sunday. It’s hard not to give this one to Spurs. And I’d be shocked if it is anything different on the day.
MY PREDICTION: Southampton 0-2 Spurs
SWANSEA V LIVERPOOL
Swansea look destined to play in the Championship next season. It would take a miracle to see them escape the drop.
Fresh from smashing City’s unbeaten run, Liverpool would be swimming in confidence ahead of this one, and should see off Swansea.
Would be really difficult for the Swans to contain Liverpool’s ‘Fab three’ that annihilated City last weekend.
MY PREDICTION: Swansea 1-3 Liverpool
