VIDEO: Resigned power minister, Adelabu, spotted controlling traffic in Ibadan

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, was on Thursday seen directing traffic in Ibadan, Oyo State, shortly after arriving in the city.

Viral videos circulating on social media captured Adelabu, dressed in blue native attire, stepping into a congested road to coordinate the movement of vehicles while exchanging greetings with supporters who had gathered around him.

The incident occurred moments after his arrival at the Ladoke Akintola International Airport, where he was received by supporters.

Speaking with journalists at the airport, Adelabu reflected on his time in office, saying he had made meaningful contributions during his tenure.

“I have seen, and I have conquered,” he said. “I believe I have tried my best and contributed my best to the national development and oversee one of the key sectors in Nigeria.”

His appearance in Ibadan comes a day after he formally resigned from the Federal Government to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.

Adelabu had earlier explained that he delayed his resignation to ensure stability in the power sector and continuity in ongoing reforms before exiting office.

He officially stepped down on Wednesday, with his resignation scheduled to take effect on April 30, 2026.

In his resignation letter, Adelabu said he was leaving office with “a deep sense of honour and profound gratitude,” noting that the decision would allow for a smooth transition.

“I write with a deep sense of honour and profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as the Honourable Minister of Power of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This resignation is to take effect on April 30, 2026, in order to allow sufficient time for a smooth and orderly handover of responsibilities,” he wrote.

He also expressed appreciation to Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing it as a privilege to contribute to reforms in the power sector.

Adelabu added that his decision to resign was driven by his intention to focus fully on his governorship ambition in Oyo State.

“My decision to step down is informed by my intention to focus fully on my gubernatorial ambition in Oyo State,” he said, adding that the move aligns with provisions of the amended Electoral Act which bar political office holders from contesting elections while in office.
