Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League after a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Burnley on Wednesday night.
An early strike from Erling Haaland proved decisive, with the forward finishing neatly just five minutes into the match after a pass from Jérémy Doku.
The result lifts City above Arsenal on goals scored, with both sides level on points and goal difference as the title race enters its final stretch.
Despite taking control early, City failed to build on their lead. Chances came and went, including efforts from Rayan Cherki and Haaland, while Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka made several key saves to keep his side in the contest.
The hosts pushed late for an equaliser and even sent Dúbravka forward for a stoppage-time corner, but Guardiola’s side held on to secure all three points.

“Winning is the main target,” said Pep Guardiola. “The chances we created we could score more goals, but the important thing is winning every game.”
He added: “We had chances… [they] were clear, clear, clear. We didn’t have any ‘umph’ in the last part of the shots. Sometimes it’s the fatigue.”
The defeat confirms Burnley’s relegation, while City’s victory puts them in control at the top, albeit by the narrowest of margins with five matches remaining.
