Plateau killings: Tinubu orders installation of 5,000 AI surveillance cameras

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured residents of Plateau State that the federal government will deploy an artificial intelligence-powered network of over 5,000 digital cameras to strengthen security and combat violence across the state.

The announcement came during his visit to Jos on Thursday, where he also condoled with the government and people over the March 29 attacks in the Angwan Rukuba district of Jos North Local Government Area, which claimed several lives.

“I promise you that this experience will not repeat itself,” Tinubu stated, while directing the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff Gen. Waidi Shaibu, and the Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu to locate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The President revealed that the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, will oversee the immediate installation of the surveillance cameras, in collaboration with the Plateau State government and security agencies. The rollout will begin in Jos and gradually expand to cover the entire state, building on similar systems successfully deployed in Lagos State and Enugu State.

Addressing families affected by the violence, Tinubu expressed deep empathy, stating: “It is only God that can give you joy and comfort. No amount of money can recompense for lost souls.”

The deployment of AI surveillance technology is part of a broader federal effort to curb rising insecurity in Plateau State, combining advanced monitoring tools with actionable intelligence to improve response times and enhance citizen safety.
