Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been ranked third in Africa and 26th in the world in the latest FIFA rankings, reflecting a mixed run of results for the national team in recent outings.
The latest standings show that Nigeria maintained a strong continental position despite recent setbacks, including failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing an intercontinental play-off to DR Congo.
Across Africa, the Super Eagles remain among the continent’s elite teams, trailing only the top two ranked sides, while continuing to hold a competitive position on the global stage.
Elsewhere, Iran slipped from 20th to 21st in the world following consecutive defeats, while Jordan recorded a notable rise to 63rd after securing draws against Nigeria and Costa Rica.
On the global scene, France climbed back to the number one spot after recording impressive victories over Colombia and Brazil, displacing Spain, which dropped after being held to a goalless draw by a ten-man Egypt.
Argentina, England, Portugal and Brazil complete the top six in the world rankings, highlighting the continued dominance of traditional football powerhouses.

Despite their ranking, Nigeria will not feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a development that has raised concerns among fans and analysts about the team’s recent form and consistency.
The Super Eagles are now expected to shift focus to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which are scheduled to begin in September 2026.
The next FIFA rankings update is expected on June 10, 2026, just ahead of the World Cup, where significant changes in global standings could occur depending on teams’ performances.
