A police officer attached to the Borno State Police Command has earned nationwide praise after returning ₦2.6 million that was mistakenly credited to his personal bank account.
The officer, Mohammad Muhammad, discovered the unexpected deposit and immediately took steps to reverse the transaction instead of keeping the funds. His actions have been widely commended by the public and senior police officials as a rare display of honesty.
The incident was first highlighted on social media by Bello Jafar, who praised the officer for his integrity. The story later caught the attention of the state police spokesperson, Nahum Daso, who publicly applauded Mohammad Muhammad for his conduct.
“I would like to formally express my appreciation for Mohammad Alhaji Muhammad, a loyal customer of United Bank for Africa (UBA) and a police officer of exceptional integrity,” Daso said.

According to reports, the money entered the officer’s account around 6 p.m. on Thursday. Surprised by the deposit, he promptly contacted his account manager, who instructed him to visit the bank to initiate the reversal.
Daso noted that bank officials were impressed by the officer’s honesty, as many individuals in similar situations often fail to return mistakenly transferred funds. He added, “What the officer did shows integrity. Most people in that situation would spend the money, but he chose to do the right thing.”
The act has since been celebrated online as a reminder that ethical conduct and responsibility still exist within the system, and serves as an example of integrity for both professionals and citizens alike.
