Chelsea complete signing of Yisa Alao, the 17-year-old Nigerian full-back from Sheffield Wednesday, in a deal worth over £500k plus add-ons, beating interest from top Premier League clubs.

Chelsea have completed the signing of 17-year-old Nigerian full-back Yisa Alao from Sheffield Wednesday, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues beat several Premier League clubs to secure the young defender, with the deal reported to be worth over £500,000 plus add-ons.

Romano confirmed the move on social media, saying:

“Chelsea agree deal to sign talented 17 year old fullback Yisa Alao from Sheffield Wednesday, here we go! Initial fee over £500k plus heavy add-ons. Chelsea beat 3 more PL top clubs to the signing.”

Alao has been linked with clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton, and Manchester City.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently bottom of the Championship and have been docked 18 points after entering administration.

Despite the club’s struggles, Alao has impressed in the first team. Manager Henrik Pedersen praised the youngster after a Carabao Cup match, telling The Star:

“He is a great young player… We have to be very careful with him.”

Alao joined Sheffield Wednesday’s academy at age seven and made his senior debut in August 2025.
