Man City complete £20m Marc Guehi signing

Manchester City have completed the signing of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in a deal worth an initial £20m.

The 25-year-old defender moves to the Etihad Stadium with months left on his Palace contract, as City respond to an injury crisis in central defence. The deal includes a sell-on clause, while Guehi has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract running until 2031.

Guehi said he was proud to join Pep Guardiola’s side.

“I am really happy and incredibly proud to be a Manchester City player,” he said. “This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I have put into my career.”

He added: “I want to grow as a player and a person, and I know at this club that’s going to happen.”

City’s director of football Hugo Viana described the signing as a major boost.

“Marc has been one of the best defenders in English football for quite some time,” Viana said. “He is a leader, a brilliant professional and someone desperate to improve.”

Guehi becomes City’s second January signing following the Man City seal £62.5m deal for Antoine Semenyo.
