American rapper A$AP Rocky has revealed that his mother, Renee Black, always believed he would end up with global music star Rihanna long before their friendship turned romantic.
Rocky made the disclosure in a recent interview on the New York Times Popcast, which was shared on Thursday.
He said his mother repeatedly encouraged him to pursue a relationship with the Barbadian singer, even at a time when he insisted they were just friends.
According to the rapper, he initially dismissed her comments, convinced that Rihanna had no romantic interest in him.
“My mother used to say, ‘I know you like this girl that you are with right now, I am not going to say any names but I want you with Riri.’

“I used to be like, ‘Mum, why do you keep saying that? That girl does not even want me like that. Be cool, she is just my friend,’” he said.
However, Rocky admitted that his mother’s intuition eventually proved right, noting that the timing of their relationship worked perfectly for both of them.
“Mothers know best, and I am thankful that she was put in my life at that time because I think anytime prior to that, I do not think I was ready for something like that,” he added.
Rocky and Rihanna were longtime friends before their relationship became romantic in late 2020.
The celebrity couple welcomed their first child in May 2022 and their second son, Riot Rose, in August 2023. In September 2025, they welcomed their third child, Rocki Irish Mayers.
