The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued an urgent directive for the return of explosives airstrike debris by residents of Sokoto State.
The warning follows reports that locals had scavenged munitions from the site of the Christmas Day airstrike, creating a serious risk to public safety.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, stressed that the military is prepared to receive all materials safely, urging the community to cooperate without fear of penalty.
“We appeal to residents to return all dangerous items. It is crucial for their safety and that of others,” he said.

The DHQ reiterated that its primary concern is public protection, emphasizing the importance of prompt action in the return of explosives airstrike debris. Community leaders and parents have been asked to intervene and ensure compliance.
“This is a call for vigilance,” Onoja added, “and we urge everyone to report and surrender any remaining explosives to the security agencies immediately.”
The appeal comes as the military continues to secure and clear the area following the December 25 operation, highlighting the ongoing need for careful handling in the return of explosives airstrike efforts.
