VIDEO: Nigerian soldier discloses salaries of officers after every 5 years in service

Nigerian soldier has stirred massive reactions online after revealing, in a now-viral TikTok video, the monthly salaries earned by military officers at different stages of their career.

The video, posted by user @vodina, shows the soldier explaining that despite spending many years in service, his current monthly salary is just ₦150,000. He added that many people would be shocked to learn how slowly military pay progresses over time.

According to him, new recruits earn around ₦104,000 when they join the Nigerian Army. After five years and a promotion, the salary only rises to about ₦112,000.

At 10 years, the pay increases slightly to ₦115,000, and after 15 years, officers reportedly earn about ₦125,000. The highest point for a soldier after two decades in service, he claimed, is ₦150,000.

He noted that while soldiers may receive some allowances depending on where they are deployed, the core salary remains “barely enough” for daily survival in the current economic climate.

The revelation has triggered widespread conversation across social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern that those risking their lives to protect the nation are earning so littleespecially amid rising inflation and soaring living costs.
