Team Nigeria added two more gold medals on Wednesday night at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, winning in wrestling and the women’s 4x100m relay.
The wins were confirmed in a statement by Kola Daniel, Special Adviser to the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olapade.
Christiana Ogunsanya dominated the women’s 53kg freestyle final, defeating Uzbekistan’s Shokhida Akhmedova 11–1 to claim gold. The women’s 4x100m team of Bada Toyin, Ezechukwu Miracle, Omokwe Maria and Nweke Cynthia also struck gold with a time of 44.27 seconds, finishing ahead of Bahrain and Gambia.

Nigeria picked up more medals across events. Patience George won silver in the women’s 400m, while Kure Adams and Badmus Atanda earned bronze in the men’s javelin and 400m. The men’s 4x100m relay team also claimed bronze. In wrestling, Miesinnei Genesis settled for silver after a 5–1 loss to Uzbekistan’s Aktenge Keunimjaeva in the 50kg final.
Olapade praised the athletes for their commitment, saying, “I am truly proud of both of you, and I want you to know that President Bola Tinubu will continue to expose Nigerian athletes to the best international competitions, both home and abroad, for podium success.”
He added, “Your performance here means a lot to us, and the NSC, under the chairmanship of Shehu Dikko, is determined to ensure Nigeria continues to enjoy the feel-good factor of sports.”
Nigeria now has eight gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals, with more expected in para-athletics and para-powerlifting.
