A disturbing video circulating online shows a 28-year-old man allegedly drinking two bottles of Sniper insecticide in front of his mother after enduring years of emotional pain from being constantly compared to others by his parents.
According to an eyewitness who shared the video, the man had long battled feelings of inadequacy due to frequent comparisons with people his parents considered more successful.
Witnesses said he consumed the insecticide at their home while his mother looked on in disbelief. Despite efforts by neighbours to save him, he reportedly refused any help.
Social media users have since reacted with sadness and anger over the incident.

“Most crimes committed by young people or adults are orchestrated by their parents, either directly or indirectly. Many engage in bad things just to make money, especially when the pressure comes from their parents comparing them to others without even caring if it’s legal or not. And the parents are supposed to give legal wrath. This is very disheartening,” a user said.
Another user wrote, “Being compared to others is so common in African homes, and it’s honestly heartbreaking. Parents think they’re motivating their kids, but they’re actually breaking their confidence. Every child grows differently, and comparison doesn’t build, it destroys. Support and understanding will always do more than shame ever could.”
