The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirms two deaths and 20 survivors in the Lagos building collapse at 54 Cole Street, Oyingbo, following a coordinated rescue operation.

At least 15 people have been rescued while several others remain trapped after a Lagos two-storey building collapse at No. 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop in Oyingbo.

The incident, which occurred shortly after midnight on Monday, drew a rapid response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS). According to the agency’s Director, Margaret Adeseye, firefighters from the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station arrived at the scene within minutes of receiving a distress call at about 12:20 a.m.

“Fifteen persons — seven men, four women, and four children — have so far been rescued alive and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment,” Adeseye said.

She added that the building had previously been marked as distressed but was still occupied by residents before it gave way.

Adeseye assured that rescue operations were continuing in collaboration with other emergency agencies “to ensure that every trapped individual is safely recovered.”

Authorities have urged residents in the area to stay clear of the site as emergency teams intensify efforts to clear the debris from the Lagos two-storey building collapse.
