A divorce hearing at the Area Court Centre, Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, took a dramatic turn on Wednesday when a woman, Mulikat Yusuf, fainted after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, rejected her plea for reconciliation and insisted on ending their marriage.
During the hearing before Judge Toyin Aluko, Abdulganiyu told the court he was no longer interested in the relationship, citing constant disagreements and loss of peace at home.
“I’m tired of the marriage, My Lord,” he reportedly said. “We’ve had several misunderstandings, and I don’t see any reason to continue.”
In a tearful plea, Mulikat begged the court to help save the union, saying she had nowhere to go and that their six children still needed both parents.
“My Lord, please talk to him,” she said. “I still love my husband and want the marriage to work.”

Her plea, however, failed to change Abdulganiyu’s decision. Moments later, as the proceedings ended, the distraught woman slumped outside the courtroom, sparking panic among court officials and sympathisers.
Eyewitnesses said people rushed to her aid and revived her by pouring water on her face. A court official confirmed she regained consciousness after a few minutes and was helped to a nearby bench to rest.
Judge Aluko urged the couple to seek reconciliation and adjourned the divorce case till December 10, 2025, for a report on settlement or continuation of the divorce process.
The divorce drama left many at the court emotional as the day’s proceedings were briefly halted.
