Fubara, Fubara dissolves cabinet

Fubara dissolves cabinet 48 hours after Tinubu-brokered reconciliation talks

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, a move that comes just 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu hosted key political actors in a bid to resolve the protracted crisis in the oil-rich state.

The decision, announced on Thursday, has heightened political interest, particularly as it follows closely on the heels of the presidential intervention.

With Fubara dissolving the cabinet 48 hours after Tinubu-brokered reconciliation talks, observers see the development as a significant step in the ongoing political realignment in Rivers State.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.

“His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council,” the statement read.

“His Excellency has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most Senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.

“His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours.”

The development comes shortly after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, confirmed reconciliation efforts aimed at ending the months-long political standoff in the state.

Wike disclosed that President Tinubu convened a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa involving Governor Fubara, his predecessor, and other Rivers political leaders. The meeting was described as a renewed effort to ease tensions stemming from the power struggle that has polarized the state’s political landscape.

Political analysts note that Fubara dissolving the cabinet 48 hours after Tinubu-brokered reconciliation talks could signal the beginning of a broader restructuring of his administration as part of efforts to stabilize governance in Rivers State.

While the governor has not publicly linked the dissolution directly to the reconciliation meeting, the timing has fueled speculation about possible adjustments in the state’s political configuration.

With Fubara dissolving the cabinet 48 hours after Tinubu-brokered reconciliation talks, attention now shifts to the expected reconstitution of the Executive Council and the implications for the state’s political future.
