Social media platform X on Tuesday announced it would suspend creators from its revenue-sharing programme for 90 days if they post AI-generated videos of armed conflicts without clearly stating that the clips were artificial.
The policy shift, unveiled by a company executive, is aimed at curbing the spread of undisclosed AI war videos, which the platform says pose a serious risk to information credibility during active conflicts involving the US, Israel and Iran.
“During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground,” X’s head of product Nikita Bier said, adding that current AI tools make it “trivial to create content that can mislead people.”

X said on Monday it would “continue to refine” its policies and products to ensure the platform “can be trusted during these critical moments.”
The new AI disclosure rule marks a notable change for the platform, which has faced criticism over its content moderation approach since Elon Musk acquired Twitter and rebranded it as X in October 2022. Since the takeover, the company has rolled back several misinformation policies, describing them as censorship.
Under the updated rules, repeat offenders who continue posting undisclosed AI war videos risk permanent removal from the Creator Revenue Sharing programme, which allows eligible users to earn a share of advertising revenue from their posts.
X said violations would be detected through Community Notes, its crowd-sourced fact-checking system, alongside metadata and other technical markers embedded in AI-generated content.
The company said the measures were necessary to protect users from being misled by synthetic conflict footage and to preserve trust in information shared during wartime, warning that failure to disclose AI-generated material would attract penalties.
With the policy now in effect, creators have been urged to properly label AI-produced conflict content to avoid sanctions and ensure transparency as the platform intensifies efforts to limit the impact of undisclosed AI war videos.
