Wizkid, known as Balogun Ayodeji, is a Nigerian Afrobeat sensation who has broken yet another record by being the country’s most-certified musician with RIAA certifications.
The Grammy-winning artist just achieved another gold certification in the US following the sales of 500,000 copies of his Starboy-owned album “Soco.”
With songs like Essence (4x platinum), Come Closer (platinum), and One Dance (11x platinum), Wizkid, who already held seven RIAA certifications as a lead artist and a featured artist, has now added further accomplishments to his resume.
Wizkid leading the way, the song “Soco,” featuring Ceeza Milli, Spotless, and Terri, was an enormous hit and brought three bright new talents to the forefront. In the UK and France, the song has also received gold and silver certifications. Wizkid now has eight US certifications, increasing his lead with this most recent RIAA gold accreditation.
Like Burna Boy, several Nigerian musicians have four certifications (two platinum and two gold) to their name. Three of these are from lead roles, and one is from being featured on songs like Ye, Last Last, On the Low, and Location.
With four certifications (three platinum and one gold), Tems, a Nigerian singer, is also included. She has received two as a lead artist and two as a featured artist.
RIAA certifications have also been obtained by artists such as Davido, Rema, Ckay, and others.
