Seun Kuti asks Wizkid to remove Fela tattoo as their feud escalates, accusing the singer of clout chasing and disrespecting the Afrobeat legend.

Wizkid breaks silence, replies Seun Kuti, says he’s bigger than Fela

Grammy-winning singer Wizkid has finally responded to Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti following days of online tension, declaring that he is “bigger than” the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

The singer, born Ayodeji Balogun, made the remarks on Tuesday through posts shared on his Instagram Story and X (formerly Twitter), ending his silence after sustained criticism from Seun Kuti over comparisons between Wizkid and his father.

In one of the posts, Wizkid directly addressed Seun, writing:

“Ok, I big pass your papa. Wetin u one do? Fool at 40!”

He followed up with another message, adding:

“I’m Big Wiz, every day bigger than your papa.”

Wizkid also reposted a viral video of a woman attacking Seun Kuti in Yoruba, before issuing further messages aimed at the Afrobeat musician.

Seun Kuti responded shortly after, brushing off Wizkid’s comments and taunting him for deleting some of the posts.

“Just be yourself. You are also great,” Seun wrote, before adding,

“U go delete now, u no get mind.”

The feud traces back to January 10, when Seun Kuti went live on Instagram to warn Wizkid’s fan base, known as Wizkid FC, against calling the singer the “New Fela.” He described such comparisons as disrespectful to his father’s legacy.

“Keep Fela’s name out of your mouths,” Seun said.

“The shoes are too big to fill.”

Seun argued that Afrobeat was more than commercial success, describing it as a political and cultural movement built on activism and resistance.

The disagreement later widened after a fan asked Seun to stop using the nickname “Big Bird,” claiming Wizkid is known as the “Biggest Bird.” Seun rejected the request, insisting he had used the name long before Wizkid.

“This name has been here since,” he said. “I am the first to come up with it.”

During the exchanges, Seun also stated that Fela’s legacy continues to benefit his family financially, revealing that he recently received about $120,000 simply for being Fela’s son.

“My father has been dead for over 29 years, and I received it,” he said.

Reacting further on X, Wizkid wrote:

“Ok everybody better pass Wizkid! Can we all sleep now? Fela fight for freedom, this one dey fight FC.”

Despite the clash, Wizkid has repeatedly acknowledged Fela Kuti as a major influence on his music and has a tattoo of the Afrobeat pioneer.

The exchange has fueled intense debate online, with fans divided over legacy, influence and the contrast between Fela’s revolutionary impact and Wizkid’s modern global success.
