Why we suspended tinted glass permit — Police

The Nigeria Police Force has explained the reason behind the temporary suspension of the enforcement of the tinted glass permit regulation under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the decision was taken in the interest of Nigerians and out of respect for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), pending the outcome of a Motion on Notice scheduled for October 16, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State.

Egbetokun made this known during a meeting with the NBA President, Afam Josiah Osigwe (SAN), and other officials at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. He noted that the tinted glass permit suspension was a precautionary step until the legal process is concluded.

Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, also clarified that there was no court order halting enforcement but that the police acted proactively to uphold public trust and ensure due process.

“The Nigeria Police Force, out of consideration for Nigerians and in deference to the Nigerian Bar Association, temporarily suspended the enforcement of the Act pending the hearing scheduled for October 16, 2025,” Hundeyin said.

Egbetokun reaffirmed that the Force remains committed to enforcing all existing laws fairly and transparently while maintaining effective collaboration with stakeholders in the justice system.
