Why there is drop in electricity supply in Southeast — EEDC

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has attributed the drop in electricity supply across the South-East to inadequate gas supply to thermal power generating stations.

The company made this known in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh, noting that the development has significantly reduced the volume of energy allocated to it from the national grid.

EEDC apologised to customers within its franchise areas for the disruption in power supply.

“We assure our customers that we will continue to liaise with relevant stakeholders, hoping that the gas supply constraints and generation challenges will be resolved soon.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this situation may cause our esteemed customers and appreciate your continued patience and understanding,” the statement read.

The clarification came hours after the Nigeria Independent System Operator also attributed the nationwide drop in electricity supply to gas shortages.
