WhatsApp has rolled out new features for group chats, adding member tags, text stickers and event reminders as it looks to make conversations easier to follow and group planning more seamless.
The Meta-owned messaging service said the updates are designed to help users better identify participants in group chats, express themselves creatively and keep track of shared plans. “These features are meant to make group chats more expressive and organised,” WhatsApp said, noting that groups are central to how users communicate and coordinate activities on the platform.
The additions complement existing group tools such as sharing files of up to 2GB, HD photos and videos, screen sharing and voice chats. According to WhatsApp, group chats are widely used for staying in touch with friends and family, planning celebrations and organising events, and the new features are intended to strengthen those interactions.

With member tags, users can now label themselves within a group to clarify who they are, particularly in large or unfamiliar chats. Tags can also be light-hearted, allowing members to describe their role or personality, and they are specific to each group, meaning users can present different tags in different chats.
WhatsApp has also introduced text stickers, enabling users to turn typed words into stickers that stand out in conversations. The company said users can create these stickers through the sticker search and save them directly to their sticker packs.
In addition, event reminders have been added to group chats, allowing users to set customised alerts ahead of scheduled events. WhatsApp said the feature is aimed at helping group members remember important dates and times without leaving the app.
The company said the combined updates are part of its ongoing efforts to make group chats more practical and engaging for everyday communication and planning.
