The Lagos State Government has distanced itself from the recent demolition of buildings on Sixth Avenue in FESTAC Town, saying it did not issue any approval for the exercise.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, made this clarification on Tuesday, October 14, while addressing journalists in Alausa.
Olumide stated clearly that the state government had no hand in the demolition, stressing that Lagos follows a transparent and regulated process before bringing down any structure.
He explained that such actions usually come only after all statutory notices have been served and consultations held with affected property owners.

“We want to assure residents that the Lagos State Government is committed to fairness, due process, and the protection of property rights,” Olumide said. “Any demolition done without proper authorization does not represent the position of this administration.”
The Commissioner also advised all government bodies operating within the state — including federal agencies — to always seek clearance from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before embarking on any demolition.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining order in urban planning while protecting citize
ns’ interests.
