VIDEO: Makinde quietly collected N50bn from Tinubu over Ibadan explosion — Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, quietly received ₦50 billion from President Bola Tinubu as support following the explosion that rocked Ibadan in 2024.

Fayose made the allegation on Friday during an interview on TVC, claiming that the funds were not paid into the Oyo State government’s coffers and were never disclosed to the public.

According to Fayose, although Makinde publicly spoke about his meeting with President Tinubu, he deliberately withheld information about the ₦50 billion allegedly given to him in support of victims of the Ibadan explosion.

“The president of Nigeria, yes, he wanted the sitting; he wanted the minister to be appointed. Circumstances did not allow him to get that slot,” Fayose said.

“But you did not tell Nigerians you got, at the prerogative, at the mercy of Mr President, ₦50 billion in support of the explosion in Ibadan. He never said that to Nigeria. So, the president can say the explosion is not worth more than ₦10 billion,” he added.

Fayose further alleged that the money was handed directly to Makinde during his meeting with President Tinubu, insisting that the governor failed to acknowledge it during his recent press briefing.

He accused Makinde of selectively disclosing details of the meeting, focusing only on his refusal to assist the President in organising the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.

“The ₦50 billion did not come into the coffers of Oyo State. It came with you coming to interface with the president because you came and said you met with the president,” Fayose stated.

“You only said the part where you said the president told you to ‘go and organise APC for me,’ and I said, ‘I cannot organise.’ But you did not tell Nigerians what the president did for you and did for the good people of your state,” he submitted.

Recall that Governor Makinde, during the same press briefing, disclosed that he would not support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
